If you miss any of these destinations you are surely going to miss an important part of Cambodia tour. While in Cambodia you will surely pay a visit to the capital of the country - Phnom Penh. The city is one of the most prominent cities in Cambodia and is recognized as the political and cultural center of the country.
Phnom Penh also has some well known legends attached to it. According to some legends in the year 1372, a local widow named Penh, discovered four Buddha statues by the Mekong River. She took them as the symbol of good fortune. Then she established a temple on the hill and housed these statues in the temple. Later a city grew around the temple. This city is known as Phnom Penh or the Hill of Penh.

Phnom Penh was once considered as one of the loveliest of Indochina’s cities that were build by the French people. However, only a little of the old glory remains there at present. You can still see beautiful French villas and street cafes in the city. Some majestic Khmer buildings and tree lined Boulevards are also very common in this city.

Phnom Penh is home to a number of Wats or temple-monasteries. You can also find several museums and other places of interest in and around the city. While in the city you can also opt for any sunset cruises on the rivers of the city. If you love shopping you can enjoy a trip to the bustling market place of the city. There are a number of luxury hotels in the city where you can have a happy stay.
